What is the correct baler for you?

In today's world we all know how important recycling is. The benefits to the planet and economy are proven and we all now do it at home and at work - Even if it is just putting our drinks cans in a different bin.

So would a baler be beneficial to your business?

Before deciding on which (if any) baler is best suited to your business, you need to look at what waste volume and streams you already have. i.e. a waste audit. If you generate a high percentage of recycleable material then the answer is generally yes.

So what is recycleable?

This list is not exhaustive but has the most common items.

Cardboard, paper, plastics, metals, cans, glass, textiles, tyres and shrinkwrap. The list can go on, but these are the most common items.

There are many benefits of having a baler.

  • It can reduce your general waste costs.

  • It can reduce the space needed for waste bins

  • It will give your business a better green credential and carbon footprint

  • It can add an income stream (for certain materials)

  • It can reduce vermin/odour issues

Now having a baler would usually cover at least 2 of the above benefits but at the end of the day it really has to be a business decision so can it ve economically viable?

A baler can cost as little as £11.50 +vat per week. In most areas, that is about the cost of 1 wheelie bin collection per week. So if you have more than 1 bin and at least 1 bin is full of recycleable material then you can usually cost justify the need for a baler.

The most common balers is a mini baler and a mill size baler. A mini baler is typical in a restaurant, retail outlet, school and office block.

A mill size baler is used by recyclers, warehouses, manufacturers and large retail outlets.

Depending on the volume and location of material, you might also be able to get a rebate value for your materials. You can check current market rates at www.letsrecycle.com/prices/
